Dreaming Paul Delvaux - 夢見るポール・デルボー

キューレターによるレクチャーに出ることもでき、

府中美術館で開催されたポール・デルボー展に遠出した甲斐が大いにあったというもの。

それによると、いわゆる「デルボースタイル」を確立するまで、

彼は大いにもがき苦しみ、大きく変遷していったそう。

他の偉大なるアーティストにすぐ感応、

その度に、いろいろなスタイルを試してみたという。

2番目の奥さんとのロマンスも有名で、

(32才で)初恋だった彼女とは実の母親から引き裂かれ、

15～20年後に再会して駆け落ちしたという・・・！

別に裸の女性マニアという訳ではなく、

当時都市を巡回して人体模型を展示していた怪しくも不思議な

「スピッツネル博物館」に純粋にインスパイアされただけらしい。

電車や駅のモチーフも、子供の頃からのお気に入り。

他のシュルレアリスムのアーティストとは違って、

世界を変えようという政治的な考えはなく、ただ、描くことを愛したデルボー。

同じくベルギーの画家、ルネ・マグリットも私は大好きなのだけど、

彼はまさにラジカル。

今回初めて知ったけど、とても面白いのが

お互い、立ち位置に対する批判を

皮肉たっぷりに自分たちの絵画に描いていること。

I joined the lecture about Paul Delvaux by a curator of Fuchu Art Museum

According to her, until he reached to "the Delvaux style" over 40 years old,

he struggled a lot and changed drastically.

He tried many styles every time when he was impressed by great artists.

He also had a dramatic love story with his 2nd wife;

they were forced to be split away by his mother when he was 32 yo (his first love)

and met again 15 - 20 years later and they run away!

He was innocent and no pathological for naked women

but just inspired by “the Spitzner Museum “- a fantastic (& lunatic)

traveling museum showing human phantoms.

The motifs of trains and stations were his favorites from his childhood.

Different from other "Surrealism" artists,

he had no politic ideas to change the world but just loved painting.

Actually, I also love René Magritte and

he was a rather radical artist, different from Paul.

It’s interesting to know they criticized each other, expressing it with irony on their paintings.
