金メダルの価値 - Value of the Gold Medal

折り紙会にも参加してくれている同僚がロサンジェルスで開催のバスケ世界大会に日本代表として参加！
心の中でも応援していたのですが、すごいことに
金メダルと一緒に帰国、ランチタイムに見せてもらいました。
なんと、それは4年に１回開催される
スペシャルオリンピックスのメダルだったのです！！
本当に恥ずかしいことに、
スペシャルオリンピックスなるものがあることを
彼女の帰国数日前まで知りませんでした。
実はオリンピックに参加していたんだということは
他の会社の人たち殆ど知らなくて、その凄さに当の本人より、
周りの方が驚いてしまっている感じでした。

指を骨折し、大きな痣２つも両腕につけて
彼女がはにかみながら持っていた金メダルの価値。
その金メダルに対して、
我々が持つであろう感情とは少し違うのかも知れません。
きっと、たくさんたくさん練習したはず。
その無欲で純粋に喜んでいる姿が美しくて、
彼女と同じチームの後輩に「私もバスケやります」
という決意をさせ、
我々にも、とっても勇気を与えてくれました。
きっと、彼女は知らないだろうけど、いいの。

One of my colleagues went to Los Angels to participate in the world basketball championships and got a gold medal!
She is the one who is most willing to join the origami session at the office.　I like her and had prayed for her good luck in LA. 
To our big surprise, the championship she participated in was "Special Olympics World Games"held this summer.

I am ashamed to say that I did not know about Special Olympics until just a several days before her returning home.
She fractured one of her fingers, got 2 huge bruises on her both arms but she was just happy, being bashful & shy, no proudly, with the gold medal in her hand.
She looked noble and beautiful with modest joy. 
That's the real value of the gold medal for her.
She must have trained a lot & lot.
And the state of her made a junior in the same department decided to join a basketball team and also gives us big courage - she will not know it but I'll never mind, just thank her.
