表面張力、恐るべし。 - Such is the power of “Surface Tension”

11月のサイエンスバーは、かなり面白かった。
テーマは「お酒と宇宙と化粧品の統一理論」
あの、液体がもりもりってなる現象でしょう？の、表面張力のお話しで、我々参加者による実験つき。
これからは、 “ワインの涙“を目の当たりにして「やっぱり濃ゆいワインはねぇ、おほほほほ」とか言って、グラスをぐるぐる、とんちんかんなことを語ってはいけませぬ。

＊良く聞くけど、、、残念。間違い!
「ワインの涙」：ワインの外観を見るとき、軽くグラスを回してグラス内壁を伝って落ちるワインのしずくの事。「ワインの足」とも言われます。これが早く落ちてくる場合は粘性が低く、逆にゆっくりきれいに落ちてくるワインは粘性が高く、エキス分を多く含んだ濃いワインと言う事になります。つまり長期熟成にも耐えうる良質なワインと言う事になります。

「ワインの脚が多いワインほど甘い、あるいは品質が優良であると喧伝されることがあるが、これは誤りである」

It was very interesting session in November at my favorite science bar.  The theme was about “A unified theory common to alcohol, universe & cosmetics” & we tried experiments by ourselves.
It’s about “Surface Tension”, we all know as a phenomenon at the surface of a liquid filled to the brim of vessels.
You might have already known it but “Tears of wine” never mean you are drinking good one.
Now you cannot say like “Fine wines have tears, as you see,” as swirling the glass around.

I believed… but it’s wrong!
In evaluating a wine’s weight, one swirls the wine in the glass, holding the glass by the base or stem. Columns of liquid, called tears or legs, will run down or adhere to the side of the glass. Their size and consistency will tell something about the wine’s body and weight. If the legs are widely separated and the tears descend rapidly into the wine, the wine has little weight; if, on the other hand, they are close together and descend slowly, then the wine has greater weight.
